Kuwait, Lebanon enact bans on 'Barbie' over gender themes

Lebanon and Kuwait have officially banned the controversial film 'Barbie'.

Lebanon and Kuwait have officially banned the controversial film 'Barbie', citing concerns about its themes surrounding gender and sexuality.

Despite its significant box office success, the movie has ignited controversy in these countries.

In Lebanon, Culture Minister Mohammad Mortada has denounced the film, asserting that it contradicts the core values of faith and morality while promoting homosexuality and sexual transformation.

Minister Mortada has emphasized that 'Barbie' clashes with Lebanon's moral, religious, and societal principles, further highlighting concerns about its portrayal of sexual themes.

Meanwhile, Kuwait has followed suit, declaring a ban on 'Barbie'.

Lafi Al-Subaie, chairman of Kuwait's film censorship committee, has labeled the movie as carrying ideas that encourage unacceptable behavior and distort societal values.

The ban comes despite the film's substantial global earnings, surpassing a billion dollars at the box office.

Even in Western markets, 'Barbie' has not escaped controversy. Comedian Bill Maher has criticized the film for allegedly promoting outdated and divisive agendas.
